Identifying Drainage Problems
February 03, 2020Which drainage system does my property have?
Many people aren’t even aware of the type of drainage system serving their property until something goes wrong. If you live in a rural area your property may have its own drainage system, rather than being connected to the main sewer owned by your local Water and Sewerage Company. This drainage system (technically known as being off-mains) may serve just your property, or you may share it with one or more of your neighbours.
Septic tanks are commonly found in rural areas and their problems can be costly and complicated to fix. Many people believe that their drainage system is a septic tank when in actual fact it may be a cess pit or sewage treatment plant. Croft Drainage Solutions have the experience to quickly identify and understand the type of drainage system serving your property, the problems affecting it and, in turn, what needs to be done to remedy them. In many cases, the cost to fix a septic tank problem are covered by the property owners existing insurance policies. We can advise you if this may be the case and handle the claim and rectification
Common Drainage Problems
The most common problem on a drain is a blockage, these can be a hard blockage (for example where the pipe material has failed and blocked the drain) or a more commonly soft blockage caused by either the wrong products being put into the drain (such as fats) or other things entering the drain such as tree roots.
Common Causes of Blockages include:
- Roots growing into the drain
- Damaged pipes – such as cracks or broken sections
- Fats oils and greases being put into the drain leading to reduced capacity
- Flushing the wrong products – nappies, baby wipes, ‘flushable’ products etc
- Gaps between the sections of pipe where the pipe has moved over time
- Poorly laid pipework with insufficient fall on it
Most blockages can be cleared quite easily so that flow can be restored. We can clear the drain, check its condition and advise on future actions needed to prevent the blockage reoccurring. Speak to Croft Drainage Solutions today on 01427 671255 for expert advice and peace of mind.
